AB The pathogenesis of BSE in bovins and of scrapie in sheep are not the same; there are distinct differences. The prions of scrapie migrate centripetally from the ileum to the central nervous system and from there centrifugally to the peripheral nerves and organs whereas the BSE prions reach only the central nervous system from the ileum. There the lesions develop and inevitably clinical signs become evident, with the ultimate death of animal.
