AB Outside Great Britain, the number of clinical cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) seems to be rising. It is unclear whether this increase is real, or whether it is caused by improved recognition and improved registration of BSE. A strict and independent control of the implementation of measures intended to keep human food free of the BSE agent is imperative.
