AB Processors and animal welfare people, as well as politicians, are looking for more humane methods to kill broilers. Electrical stunning is seen as an unreliable method causing much damage to the bird's carcase. Therefore, the EU has sponsored a research project to find an alternative method for stunning. In a field study, three methods of stunning - electrical, gas (CO2) and gas (argon) were compared to see how they affected carcase and meat quality characteristics.
