AB The pathogenesis of impact injuries to the brain is reviewed and hypotheses accepted in human medicine are compared with results of experimental work in animals. When treating concussed animals, attention should be directed to the control of both brain ischaemia and raised intracranial pressure, features which exacerbate the consequences of direct injury to the brain.
