AB After considering the stunning methods in use today the authors report on a system which uses water under high pressure not only to penetrate the cranium but also to destroy large areas of the central nervous system within a few fractions of a second. They report on their first experiences with killing pigs by this method in the laboratory. They regard this particular system as a first stage in the development of a new, fully automatic apparatus for all species of slaughter animal.
