AB This paper investigates the responses of European moles (Talpa europaea) to mechanical mole scarers. The three devices tested emitted vibrations in the frequency range 0 to 20 kHz. Vibrations of this frequency are rapidly attenuated when passing through soil. Moles fitted with radio transmitters gave no indication of being repelled by the mechanical devices.
