AB After a presentation of all methods of stunning, potential methods for inducing unconsciousness without fixation are discussed. According to our own experiments microwave irradiation of the whole body proved to be inhumane, whereas head irradiation was ideal but required fixation. From different inhalation methods only CO2-gas in a concentration of 50% applied during 30 seconds was considered applicable in broilers, but the method needs further study.
