TI Stress in meat animals

QU In: Developments in Meat Science II, Applied Science Publishers, London, New Jersey 1981; 61-92° Ed. Lawrie,R.

PT Monographie

AB So far as meat animals are concerned we can attribute many variations in carcass and meat quality to stress but it is not possible to set down unequivocal guidelines to prevent socalled stress-induced reactions. The thresholds of sensitivity to stress vary widely amongst animals and any practical proposal to eliminate stress could prove inadequate in different circumstances or with different genotypes. This is not to say that humanitarianism should be forgotten but it is to suggest that anthropomorphism is not the solution.
