AB An examination of the recommended application of three types of captive bolt guns for use on small animals with respect to their humaneness indicated that the operating instructions for two of these described unsuitable points of entry for pre-slaughter stunning. Captive bolt guns must be placed on the head precisely between the base of the ears, while pressing the head on the ground. This is the only procedure which guarantees the immediate penetration of the brain into the relatively wide caudal area of the skull.
