AB For the electrical stunning of geese in a water bath in accordance with the requirements of animal welfare, i.e. triggering ventricular fibrillation, a minimum current of 130 mA per bird is required. Triggering ventricular fibrillation during head-to-legs stunning of geese in a water bath depends on the maximum amperage reached. A longer passage time should be preferred as this will improve the probability of getting the heads properly immersed. None of the investigated carcase defects were directly caused by stunning. Increasing the rate of ventricular fibrillation to about 90% has no adverse effect on the degree of bleeding if the cut is carried ut properly. To ensure immersion of the heads of geese providing a plunge is recommended.
