AB The outbreaks of classical swine fever in 1997-1998 and foot- and mouth-disease in 2001 provided a lot of experiences in the culling of animals. These experiences, as well as the aspects of animal welfare and public acceptance are described. In the future these experiences will help to carry out culling in a more efficient way including improved aspects of animal welfare and public acceptance.
