28/9/97 2/1/02 The Simmenthal cow had to be killed as it showed central nervous symptoms and was disposed of in a rendering plant. A BioRad screening test for BSE carried out by the Bayerisches Landesamt für Gesundheit und Lebensmittelsicherheit (Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety ) gave a negative result (according to information forwarded by phone by the Bavarian crisis management centre). The BSE suspicion which was only based on relatively unspecific symptoms could not be confirmed by an immunohistochemic test and was thus dismissed.
